The prime minister of New Zealand has become involved in a dispute with car hire company – New Zealand Car Rental Specialists. The PM was reportably furious with the actions of the company.

Two men lost their lives after being crushed by tones of falling ice. 24 year old Ashish Miranda and 22 year old Akshay Miranda were killed as they innocently posed for photos at Fox Glacier on the South Island on Thursday 8th January.

New Zealand Car Rental Specialists demanded $1950 NZ Dollars from the family in order to tow the rental car back to Wellington as well as replace the lost car keys which were in Akshay’s pocket. Akshay’s body has yet to be recovered.

Public outcry from both New Zealand and Australia eventually forced the car hire company to back down. John Key (NZ PM) stated that he believed the company should have shown more compassion for the family. He went on to say that business’s need to look at the whole picture and not just stick to legalities. He called the actions of the company “crass” and “truly bad business practice”.
